Critical Volunteer Opportunities

  • Food Coordinator Volunteers are needed to assist Gaithersburg residents requesting food.  This position requires working from home one or more weekdays a month, returning client telephone requests for food and scheduling clients in our web-based database to pick up food in the pantry.  The time requirement is from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Training will be provided.  Some of our communication is through email and our client information is now in an online database, so Food Coordinator volunteers need to have Internet access and their own computer.  Please call 301-216-2510, Box 6 and someone will return your call.
  • Translator Volunteers - Gaithersburg HELP is looking for volunteers who are comfortable speaking on the phone in both Spanish and English, and who are available two or more days a month during weekday mornings.  We operate largely through a phone message system, so the volunteering can be done from home.  We are looking for volunteers  who can return calls to Spanish speakers, talk to them about the help we have available, schedule them for picking up food or other assistance, and relay info in English to other other volunteers operating the HELP system.  Some of our communication is through email, and our client information is now in an online database, so HELP Translaotr volunteers need to have Internet access and their own computer.  Training will be provided.  If you are interested in volunteering please call us at 301-216-2510, Box 6 and someone will return your call.
  • Transportation Driver Volunteers are needed to drive clients to weekday servcie agency or medical appointments in the Gaithersburg area, or further if the drivers are agreeable.  Assignments take 2-3 hours each and are flexible based on the volunteer's availability.  Approximate time commitment is 2 trips per month.  Training will be provided.  Please call 301-216-2510, Box 6 and someone will return your call.
  • Transportation Coordinators are needed to schedule rides to medical appointments or travel to local service agencies for clients.  Volunteers work from home one week every other month returning client phone calls and contacting volunteer drivers.  Generally takes 1-3 hours each weekday spread throughout the day.  Training will be provided.  Please call 301-216-2510, Box 6 and someone will return your call.
  • Prescription/Financial Coordinators work two to four days a month from home, returning calls to clients who need assistance with paying for prescriptions or other financial help.  Volunteers must exercise discretion and must make judgements on the level of need.  The typical time needed is 2-3 hours actual work spread over the day, depending on the volume of calls.  Training will be provided.  Please call 301-216-2510, Box 6 and someone will return your call.
